Research Centres

Research into a specific period in the history of art, such as the Baroque in the Southern Netherlands, for example, calls for specialist knowledge. A benefit of such research is the bringing together of expertise and experts often from various disciplines (art history, stylistic critique, scientific research, restoration, archivist activities, and so forth). In this manner, small and large research centres emerge that specialise in a specific period, demarcated by a temporal and geographical sense. Such a research centre assembles permanent knowledge and carries out active research.
