Still Life

This painting is a fine example of the symbol of the temporality of things. In order to portray the temporality or vanitas, Willebeeck called upon everyday objects that refer to vanity or are empty. The overturned creamer, tazza and Westerwald pitcher are empty, the burning cigar does not have much more time left, the snuffed pipe lies used up nearby and the shell no longer houses any life. Willebeeck primarily points to the fleetingness of pleasure media, drink and the stupefying pleasure of tobacco.
